The BSS sites referrals processes

The three Birmingham Sarcoma Service hospitals deal with different areas of sarcoma as set out below:

GP referrals

If you have access to NHS eReferrals, please refer your patients via this method, rather than by post or email.

If you wish to refer a patient with a suspected sarcoma, who fits with the NICE Guidelines criteria for a 2ww referral, please complete and send the following referral form via NHS eReferrals. If you do not have access to eReferrals, please email this form to ROHoncology.referrals@nhs.net

Tertiary referrals

ROH Birmingham sarcoma

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital

For all adult bone sarcoma, adult extremity and trunk soft tissue sarcoma, all suspected bone and soft tissue sarcoma in under 16s.

Please email the referral to ROHoncology.referrals@nhs.net

The referral should include:

  • Completed referral form
  • Referral letter
  • Patient and GP contact details
  • Copies of all imaging on CD
  • Copies of any scan reports and histopathology reports
  • Details of information already given to the patient

Spinal Oncology Referral

If you need to make a spinal oncology referral for patients with MSCC, metastatic or primary spinal tumours, we use an online referral system ensuring speed of access and accurate information transfer and recording of all spinal oncology referrals, please click the link below.

Birmingham-Childrens-Hospital

Birmingham Children's Hospital

No suspected sarcoma referrals, please. This should be done via ROH. All on treatment enquiries for under 16 year olds. Both bone and soft tissue sarcoma.

The referral should include:

  • Completed referral form
  • Referral letter
  • Patient and GP contact details
  • Copies of all imaging on CD
  • Copies of any scan reports and histopathology reports
  • Details of information already given to the patient

*These referrals are managed through ROH so the below referral form is the same as ROH form.

For all adult retroperitoneal, breast, abdominal, head and neck, and intrathoracic soft tissue sarcoma.
